ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Western Racquet and Tri-County Gymnastics aren’t your typical classrooms.
The gyms are finding new ways to help kids return to school.
Kids are able to do their online learning, and burn off some energy at the same time.
“Parents that work in corporate America and they need an option for their kids to be able to interact with other children and also get their virtual learning in if they aren’t able to stay home with them,” Tri-County Gymnastics and Cheer owner Chandra Reivitis said.
“We said, how can we do something really cool in house to utilize all the square footage in this facility, give kids a way to do their homework, be active, be around other kids their age,” Western Racquet and Fitness Club owner Mary Thomas said.
The Ashwaubenon gyms also offer on-site tutors to guide students through their virtual learning.
“Being able to be there for the kids at the certain points that they need, and then at the other times being able to filter in activities like tennis or a workout or going into the basketball gym to get some activity as well,” Thomas said.
Both programs are set up to allow for social distancing, small class sizes, and masking when needed.
While these programs could be ideal for a working parent, there’s a reason these classrooms are even necessary.
“The virus does not discriminate from an age perspective,” ThedaCare President and CEO Dr. Imran Andrabi said.
Andrabi says the COVID-19 trends are rising, and the community needs to do its part to bring them down.
“Lets just do the simple stuff. Nobody’s asking anybody to do anything difficult or esoteric. Let’s mask, let’s socially distance, wash our hands, get the flu shot,” Dr. Andrabi said.
Western Racquet’s program is $40/child per day for members and $46/child per day for non-members.
Tri-County’s program is $28/child for a half day.
