YUBA CITY, CA (WTAQ) — A number of volunteers from Northeast Wisconsin have made their way out west to help in the wake of devastating wildfires.
Volunteers with the Wisconsin American Red Cross have been sent out to California and Oregon in the wake of fires there.
“Through the whole state we have about 25 as of this morning, and that number is going up,” Red Cross Wisconsin Spokesman Justin Kern told WTAQ. “About a quarter of those folks are from the Green Bay area.”
Kern is out in Yuba City, California this week with other volunteers.
“We’re helping people get into temporary shelters, we’re bringing food to people,” said Kern. “As well as helping with health needs and mental health needs.”
More volunteers from the area are expected to ship out soon. Not just out west, but to Louisiana and Texas to deal with the aftermath of Hurricane Sally.
