WAUPACA, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Two men were honored for their heroic actions last month that saved a woman and child in Waupaca County.
Zach Schendel and Tony Tomaro sprung into action when they saw a car plunge into the Wolf River outside of New London on Aug. 6.
The vehicle was sinking fast as a young mother and her one-year-old son were trapped inside.
Schendel and Tomaro were able to break a window and free the woman and child and bring them to safety.
On Tuesday, Waupaca County Sheriff Timothy Wilz presented the men with the Civil Medal of Gallantry.
“Without your bravery and selfless actions, this incident could of had a horrendous outcome,” Wilz wrote.
