GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Good news for drivers on Green Bay’s east side. Construction on the bridge carrying Mason Street over the East River is scheduled to end tomorrow.
Public Works director Steve Grenier says the reopening will be on schedule, and acknowledges it wasn’t an easy closure.
“This was an extremely busy corridor and I think drivers on Green Bay’s easy side have noticed that,” he told WTAQ on Thrusday.
The closure caused big delays and headaches for drivers who had to detour across Main Street and Deckner Avenue.
Still, Grenier says, it could have been worse.
“There’s been some inconvience, we know that,” Grenier said. “Delay is inherent when you take out a major street like that, but accidents and events of that nature have been minimized.”
Shortly after the bridge closed for a partial deck replacement in July, officials had to re-calculate the timing of traffic lights on the detour to move traffic through.
Crews are expected to have the span open by rush hour Friday afternoon.
