GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation CEO and Secretary Missy Hughes was in Green Bay Thursday to kick off a new statewide initiative in the wake of the COVID-19 Pandemic.
It’s called “We’re All In” and it aims to rally businesses and residents across the state in support of public health measures.
“We have such a spirit of taking care of our neighbors [in Wisconsin],” Hughes said Thursday. “That’s why we need to be thinking about taking care of our health and our safety in order to get our economy to regain momentum.”
The campaign will include social media, advertising, and other outreach efforts to create a “community of communities” in Wisconsin. There’s a special focus on reaching out to small businesses.
“Small businesses in Wisconsin have borne the brunt of this pandemic,” said Hughes. “The restaurants, the cafes, the hair stylists have all carried this weight on their shoulders and now it’s time for us to carry that weight.”
Hughes spoke alongside Mayor Eric Genrich, On Broadway Director and City Alder Brian Johnson, and Pete’s Garage owner and Tower Clock Eye Center Dr. Kurt Schwiesow.
“Envision what the Broadway district would look like, if businesses began to fail because of a pandemic for which no reasonable small business could properly prepare,” Johnson asked, recalling the derelict state of the district just a quarter-century ago.
The group toured Copper State Brewing company along with several other area businesses.
