GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – From calls to vote for new school board members, to residents waiting for elections, it’s clear not everyone is in favor of the Green Bay Area Public School District’s decision to begin the new school year with virtual teaching.
But it’s more than full-time parents becoming full-time teachers. So what about students’ mental health?
“Mentally, I think it’s a good thing and a bad thing at the same time,” said Matthew Williams.
He’s a Green Bay dad of four.
He tells FOX 11 while kids might be disconnected from their friends, virtual learning could help students focus from home.
“It shows some kids you don’t have to be in class and act out to get attention. They’re able to do more when they put their mind together and don’t have to worry about ‘do I not want to do this’ and ‘is there a way to act out and not make it happen?'”
Still, hundreds of parents have disagreed with the decision online.
The district says kids won’t be back in school until Brown County’s positive test rate is five percent or lower, for at least two weeks.
