GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – 22-year-old Abdi Ahmed is accused of causing an accident that killed three people along Lombardi Avenue on Sunday afternoon. Police say Ahmed is facing second-degree reckless homicide charges.
But this apparently isn’t the first time police have spoken to Ahmed about his driving. Not even close.
Green Bay Municipal Court records show Ahmed was cited for at least three different traffic violations since September. Those citations include disorderly conduct with a motor vehicle, zone and posted limits, and failure to obey sign or signal.
The Brown County district attorney’s office and the Green Bay Police Department would not speak about the complaints. Police say it is too early in the investigation to be sharing additional details about the complaints.
“Officer Hack’s report indicates that there’s been a total of six contacts or complaints regarding the same vehicle for reckless driving or operating at an excessive speed, including a report from less than 10 days ago where the same vehicle was involved in an incident where he’s alleged to have traveled 90 miles per hour with his lights off at 10 p.m,” district attorney David Lasee says.
Ahmed’s lawyer says Sunday’s crash does not rise to the level of reckless homicide.
Defense attorney for Abdi Ahmed Chris Froelich says, “What we have here is an accident. It obviously happened and accidents happen all the time.”
Ahmed returns to court July 9. Formal charges have yet to be been filed.
