(WNFL) – Week 5 of the high school football season begins tonight with De Pere heading over to Suamico for a clash with the Bay Port Pirates.
Bay Port comes into the game 4-0 and is coming off a 58-7 win over the Green Bay Southwest Trojans.
Ryder Timmerman leads the Pirates in rushing with 252 yards on 28 carries. Jackson Smith Jr. has added 242 yards rushing while Ethan Orlando has carried the ball 6 times for 148 yards.
Jackson Otradovec is the leading receiver with 16 catches for 371 yards and 3 touchdowns.
The Pirates two-headed quarterback operation is going well with Bray Babich having rushed for 176 yards and completed 23-of-31 passes for 625 yards and 6 touchdowns. His tag team partner at quarterback Braydon Maney has completed 26-of-34 passes for 466 yards and 5 touchdowns. Maney has rushed for 109 yards.
Defensively, Asher Fontaine has 38 tackles including 6 behind the line of scrimmage and 4 quarterback sacks. Larz Hanson has 23 tackles including 4 behind the line of scrimmage.
De Pere defeated Appleton West 40-14 last week to improve to 3-1 on the season.
The Redbirds are led by Ryland Nowak who has passed for 532 yards and 6 touchdowns while completing 48-of-80 passes.
Liam Fieber has carried the football 49 times for 327 yards. Drew Taber is next in line with 160 yards rushing on 23 carries.
Max Goebel is the leading receiver for Nowak with 21 catches for 277 yards. Noah Stoehr has 12 receptions for 135 yards.
Defensively, Cayden Cavanaugh has a team high 32 tackles including 6 behind the line of scrimmage. He also has 2 interceptions. Kale Graff is next in line with 26 tackles.
Friday
Kaukauna at Appleton North
The Ghosts are coming off an impressive 34-21 win over the Neenah Rockets while Appleton North defeated Fond du Lac 14-13 when the Cardinals missed a game-tying extra point late in the fourth quarter.
Kaukauna is led by junior quarterback Ryan Carrel who has completed 48-of-88 passes for 561 yards. He has also rushed for 232 yards.
Muhammad Jobe is the Ghosts’ leading rusher, having piled up 445 yards on 63 carries.
Jobe is also Carrel’s favorite receiver with 10 receptions for 114 yards. Brady Schwalbach is next with 10 receptions for 110 yards.
Bryce Urban and Laythan Hurst are Kaukauna’s leading tacklers with 36 tackles each. Urban has 7 tackles behind the line of scrimmage and 3 1/2 sacks. Hurst has 4 tackles for loss. Dylan Ford who had a strong game against Neenah has 7 tackles for loss and 4 quarterback sacks.
Appleton North is lead by Brock Struensee with 350 yards rushing on 95 carries.
At quarterback, Owen Rein has completed 20-of-42 passes for 251 yards and 3 touchdown.
Brady Olp is the leading receiver with 7 catches for 99 yards.
Defensively, Jake Gaskill and Carson Tegelman are 1-2 in tackles with 33 and 32, respectively. Brayden Kirsch is third with 27 tackles. Maverick Marta and Gavin Frega both have 3 quarterback sacks.
Seymour at Xavier
This game will go a long way in determining just who these two teams are.
Xavier is 2-2 with 42-0 and 59-14 non-conference losses to Little Chute and Freedom, respectively, and 40-0 and 16-14 wins over Waupaca and Wrightstown, respectively.
At quarterback, Xavier’s Porter Meach has completed 24-of-36 passes for 258 yards while Phillip Schmidtke is 15-of-29 for 249 yards.
On the ground, Ben Kappell is the leading rusher with 249 yards on 41 carries. Meach has rushed for 117 yards on 30 carries.
Kappel has caught 12 passes for 178 yards while Osaze Fournillier has 15 receptions for 170 yards.
Defensively, Carson Tylinski has 27 tackles with Owen Kist and Owen Hermes next with 21 and 20, respectively.
Seymour is 3-1. They won the 2 non-conference games, beating Waupun 27-14 and Oconto Falls 21-13, then lost to Fox Valley Lutheran 28-21 and beat Waupaca 43-7.
Kyle Neppl leads Seymour at quarterback with 208 yards passing on 11-of-24. He has thrown for 3 scores while getting picked off 5 times.
Greg Salzman is a workhorse at running back with 69 carries for 628 yards and 5 touchdowns. Shane Setliff is next with 26 carries for 152 yards.
Isaac Feske and Salzman both have 5 receptions. Feske has 81 yards receiving while Salzman has 71.
Brayden VanDeHei is Seymour’s leading tackler with 29. Brayden Miller is next with 22 sacks. Nolan Beilfusss has a team-leading 3 sacks.
NEW Lutheran/Providence Academy at Algoma
Both teams are 3-1 coming into the 8-person football game.
The Blazers have defeated Gibraltar 30-16, beat Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah 42-15, lost to Sevastopol 50-18 and beat Oneida Nation 32-0.
NEW Lutheran/Providence Academy is lead through the air by Hayden Schultz who has completed 28-of-57 passes for 555 yards and 6 touchdowns. He is also the Blazers leading rusher with 506 yards rushing.
The favorite target of Schultz is Cashe Martin with 11 receptions for 331 yards. Julian Trimberger is next with 181 yards.
Rick Kaske III, Jimmy Hoiska and Julian Trimberger are 1-2-3 in tackles with 33, 32 and 31, respectively.
Algoma has defeated Newman Catholic 44-6, Wausaukee 54-8, Gibraltar 42-6 and lost to Valley Christian 31-14.
Algoma is led by Ethan Melotte. Melotte has rushed for 447 yards on 70 carries and completed 13-of-22 passes for 277 yards and 4 scores.
Jack Meverden and Jacob Blahnik have added 190 and 155 yards rushing, respectively.
Cooper Fay is the leading receiver with 8 catches for 242 yards.
Brady Walker has 41 tackles for Algoma. Blahnik and Jack Schwader have 29 and 27 tackles, respectively, for Algoma.
NEW Lutheran/Providence Academy is more balanced offensively with 671 passing yards and 645 rushing yards.
Algoma is run heavy with 1,051 rushing yards and 277 passing yards.
Freedom at Kohler/Sheboygan Lutheran/Christian
The 4-0 and top-ranked Irish head to Kohler to take on the Blue Bombers who are 3-1.
Freedom has been just rolling over opponents with a 40-0 win over Lake Mills, a 59-14 win over Xavier, a 63-7 win over New London and a 49-7 win over Denmark.
Freedom is led by Owen Henkel through the air with 777 yards passing and 10 touchdowns on 58 completions on 94 attempts.
Axzil Eggert had 601 yards rushing on 59 carries.
Charlie Micke has caught 19 balls for 283 yards while Aidan Aerts has pulled in 15 passes for 210 yards.
Defensively, Henry VanAsten has a team-high 24 tackles with 6 for loss.
Kohler/Sheboygan Lutheran/Christian has defeated Reedsville 28-6, Oostburg 30-14, lost to Luxemburg-Casco 47-26 and defeated Sheboygan Falls 41-7.
Aiden Oldenhoff has completed 77-of-113 passes for 929 yards and 13 touchdowns for the Blue Bombers.
Maxwell Sewacki, a sophomore, has rushed for 233 yards on 53 carries. Grant Wilson has carried the ball 42 times for 182 yards.
McCoy Michael is the leading receiver with 31 catches for 319 yards. Carter Zimmerman has 23 receptions for 263 yards.
Freedom has a been a juggernaut offensively, averaging 13 yards per pass reception and 8.9 yards per rush.
Kohler/Sheboygan Lutheran/Christian is much more a passing team, averaging 12.1 yards per reception and 3.9 yards per rush.
