WAUTOMA (WLUK) – Crystal Maciaga pleaded not guilty Friday to allegedly killing her boyfriend after they argued about another woman.
Maciaga, 33, is charged first-degree intentional homicide for the July 9 shooting of Connor Henke.
After testimony from an investigator during a preliminary hearing Friday, Maciaga was bound over for trial.
No trial date was set. Maciaga returns to court Nov. 23 for a status conference.
According to the complaint in the homicide case, police were called to the 19th Avenue home about 6:30 p.m. on July 9. When police arrived, they found Henke on the floor with two gunshot wounds. Efforts to save him were unsuccessful.
Two days after the shooting, Maciaga told police they argued about him contacting other women online.
The complaint identifies the Henke by his initials, “CAH.”
“The defendant stated that CAH was upset and confronted over (another woman), and was throwing things around and choked her for a bit,” the complaint says. “The defendant stated that CAH saw the gun on the dresser and asked what it was for. The defendant stated that CAH pointed the gun at her head. The defendant stated a struggle ensued in the bedroom where the gun went off. The struggle continued into the living room where the gun was fired again. Another round was fired by the couch and CAH fell backwards into the TV where she then saw blood on his belly.”
Police noted Maciaga had bruises.
They took her back to house, so she could walk police through what happened. Police explained inconsistencies with her story, noting “her story was highly unlikely due to the size and strength differences between” them, the complaint states.
Henke’s father later told police his son had texted him that morning, saying “Can’t stay home anymore. She’s actually going to kill me dude.”
Henke filed for a restraining order on June 11, but it was denied June 25, court records show. After that, Maciaga was served with a 28-day eviction notice. Judge Blader was not the judge in this civil case.
Henke’s brother and mother described Maciaga as controlling and didn’t want him doing any activities with anyone but her. Henke wanted Maciaga to move out, the complaint states.
