NEENAH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The Wisconsin Department of Justice announced Monday it reached a $200,000 settlement with Neenah Foundry Company to resolve civil environmental enforcement action for alleged violations of air pollution control permits and regulations.
These 18 violations are said to have occurred at the company’s two foundry plants in Winnebago County. According to the DOJ, the company failed to maintain and operate air pollution control devices and monitors, had inadequate recordkeeping and did not report deviations from permit requirements to the state Department of Natural Resources.
“Our air pollution control permit system relies on compliance with permit terms in order to effectively protect clean air,” said Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul in a news release. “When companies fail to fulfill their obligations under those permits, there must be accountability.”
The proposed agreement would require Neenah Foundry Company to pay a total of $200,000 in forfeitures, surcharges and court costs. The Order for Judgment was signed May 7 by Winnebago County Circuit Court Judge Bryan Keberlein.
