(WTAQ-WLUK) — Two judges and a public defender from Northeast Wisconsin have been recognized for their contributions to the legal field.
The State Bar of Wisconsin honored Brown County Judge Thomas Walsh with the Hon. Charles Dunn Wisconsin Lawyer Author Award for excellence in legal writing. Walsh’s article in Wisconsin Lawyer magazine, “Lawyers, Judges, The Third Branch: A Republic, If You Can Keep It,” took a look at the role lawyers and judges play in maintaining the justice system’s integrity and the balance of government.
U.S. District Court Judge William Griesbach received the State Bar’s Lifetime Jurist Award, with the bar recognizing him for “fairness, integrity, and long-standing service.” Griesbach was a Brown County judge from 1995-2002 before moving to the federal bench. He continues to serve the Eastern District of Wisconsin on senior status.
Appleton-based public defender Alaina Fahley was honored with the Grant F. Langley Service Award for her work helping children and families. Fahley is the family defense practice coordinator for the state public defender’s office. The State Bar says in that capacity, she has trained and mentored attorneys across Wisconsin and supported complex cases involving child welfare and youth justice.
