GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is again studying the walleye population on Green Bay — and there could be money in it for anglers who catch one.
The DNR, along with Walleyes for Tomorrow, plans to tag as many as 5,000 walleyes with yellow tags and 400 with red reward tags.
Those who catch a tagged fish are encouraged to report it to the DNR by emailing DNRFHGBFish@wisconsin.gov, calling 920-662-5411 or mailing:
DNR Green Bay Service Center
ATTN: Fisheries Biologist
2984 Shawano Ave.
Green Bay, WI 54313
The DNR is looking for the tag number and color, species, length, location caught, date caught and whether the fish was kept or released.
Red tags will say “REWARD: $100.” To claim the reward, anglers should present the physical tag to the DNR if the walleye is harvested, or, if the fish is released, take a close-up picture of the tag, including the three-digit tag number, and a picture of the angler holding the walleye with the reward tag attached.
Those who report yellow or green tags will receive a history of DNR encounters with that fish, including the date, location, size, sex and possibly age at the time of tagging. Fish with yellow or green tags do not need photo verification.
