(ST NORBERT COMMUNICATIONS) DE PERE – St. Norbert College batted to its fourth split of a doubleheader in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference action in 2026 after halving its two gams with Rockford University at Miron Construction Field.
The Green Knights (14-14, 6-6 NACC) won the opener 9-6 before the Regents bounced back to take the nightcap 14-5.
In Game 1, St. Norbert jumped ahead when Morgan Jarvi’s grounder scored Elly Kirst, who opened the inning with a walk, stole second and advanced to third on an error. The Green Knights added four runs in the fourth inning when Ava Engwall scored on an error, Molly Reichenberger doubled home two runs and Jarvi plated Reichenberger with another groundout for a 5-0 lead.
Rockford responded with four runs in the top of the fifth but the Green Knights avoided catastrophe when the Regents left the bases load. St. Norbert got a run back in the fifth on an Allison Ardito (pictured) RBI double. The Green Knights picked up three insurance runs in the sixth on another Ardito RBI double, an RBI grounder from Sydney Palladino and an Engwall sacrifice fly. Rockford scored twice in the top of the seventh for the final margin.
Ardito was 2-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored, while Grendel Sprong was 2-for-4. Engwall and Reichenberger were both 2-for-3 with two runs batted in and a run scored, with Engwall hitting a double and Reichenberger two doubles. Amber Johanek got the win with four-plus innings of work, allowing five hits and two earned runs. Addison Maurer worked the final three innings for the save.
In Game 2, Rockford got the jump with three runs in the top of the first inning. The Green Knights got a run back in their half of the inning on Emma Schmidt’s single to score Jarvi. St. Norbert cut the deficit to 3-2 when Morgan Hansel scored on an error. Rockford broke the game open with six-run third inning to take a 9-2 lead. The Grene Knights got another run back when Engwall drove a run in with a groundout.
Rockford scored three times in the fourth but St. Norbert countered with two runs when Reichenberger stole second and came all the way around to score on a pair of errors. Sprong’s triple then scored Jarvi, who had singled, to make it 12-5. Rockford then tacked on two runs in the fifth inning for the game’s final runs.
Jarvi was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, while Spring was 2-for-3 with a run scored and a run batted in and a triple. Addison Luebke took the loss in 2 1/3 innings pitched.
BASEBALL
ROCKFORD, Ill. – St. Norbert College was kept quiet by Rockford University, being swept by the Regents by scores of 19-4 and 15-0 in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference doubleheader at Regent Field.
The Green Knights (15-16, 5-11 NACC) did start the first game with a small 1-0 lead in the first inning, with Declan Kane’s sacrifice fly scoring Matt Schuch. The Regents took a 3-1 lead after the first inning and made it a 7-1 advantage in the fourth. Nine runs in the fifth doomed St. Norbert as they trailed 16-1. The Green Knights picked up three consolation runs in the seventh, as a Ben Griffey sacrifice fly scored Will Van Laanen and a Mark Othmer double scoring two more.
Kane had the lone multi-hit game, going 2-for-2 with an RBI.
Jace Midbon took the loss, pitching four innings while striking out two and allowing seven runs on seven hits, four of which were earned.
In the nightcap, Rockford dominated once again and led 10-0 after three innings. The Regents added five more runs in the sixth.
Zach Bostrand had one hit for the Green Knights. Charlie Gretz took the loss, pitching two innings while striking out four and walking three and allowing four runs on five hits.
