(ST NORBERT COMMUNICATIONS) DE PERE – St. Norbert College battled to a split with Aurora College, picking up an impressive 10-3 win to open the day before being shut down 11-0 in the second game in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference doubleheader at Van Alstein Field.
The Green Knights (12-6, 2-2 NACC) dominated the first game, holding a nine-run advantage in the seventh inning.
A Zach Bostrand single scored the opening run in the first inning, while Jake Lucas added a two-run single to give St. Norbert a 3-0 lead. The Green Knights were held to no further runs until the fifth, when Ethan Volz scored on an Aurora error. Declan Kane’s single in the same frame scored Will DeBruin to make it 7-0.
Lucas was walked with the bases loaded to make it 8-0 while Bostrand scored a ninth on a fielder’s choice. The Spartans got on the scoreboard in the eighth with three runs, two of which came on a home run. Tyler Dean’s single in the bottom of the eighth gave St. Norbert a 10-3 advantage.
Kane led St. Norbert with three hits and an RBI, while DeBruin and Carson Krumrei accounted for two hits.
Jace Midbon (pictured) earned his third win of the year, pitching 7.1 innings with three strikeouts and two walks and allowing three runs on eight hits.
In the second game, Aurora scored one run in the second before adding seven in the fifth. The Spartans then added three more runs in the sixth to take a shutout win.
Kane and Volz each had one hit in the loss.
Charlie Grezt took the loss, pitching 4.2 innings with two strikeouts and three walks while allowing seven runs on five hits.
