(ST NORBERT COMMUNICATIONS) DAVENPORT, Fla. – St. Norbert College was victorious once again on the penultimate day of action in Florida, sweeping Bard College by scores of 15-8 and 9-1 in two non-conference doubleheaders.
The Green Knights (10-3) trailed 5-3 in the opening game before exploding for 10 runs in the third inning to turn the game on its head. In the second game, the Green Knights built up an 8-0 lead in the third inning to win their sixth game in the Sunshine State.
Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the first, St. Norbert tied the game on a Will Debruin single and took a 2-1 lead on a Declan Kane double. The Green Knights added one more run on a ground out to take a 3-1 lead. The Raptors scored one run in the second and three in the third to take back a 5-3 lead before a flurry of St. Norbert offense to take a commanding lead. Singles from Zach Bostrand and Tyler Murphy each scored one run, while the next two runs came with the bases loaded after hit by pitch plays.
Kane’s second double of the day scored two more while a Carson Krumrei (pictured) 3 RBI home run gave St. Norbert a 12-5 lead. The Raptors managed to cut the lead down to 14-8 in the sixth, but came no further to dangering the Green Knights.
Kane went 4-for-4 with 3 RBIs while Krumrei was 3-for-5 with 4 RBIs. DeBruin and Bostrand both had two hits.
Kyle Olson took the win, pitching two innings with one strikeout and allowing no hits.
In the nightcap, St. Norbert jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, highlight by a two-run double from Krumrei. A double from Kane in the second scored Jackson Leibman. St. Norbert scored three runs in the third inning, highlighted by a two runs on a wild pitch. Ethan Volz added one more run in the seventh on a balk.
Leibman led the Green Knights with two hits. Noah Chmielewski earned his first win of the season, pitching five innings with one strikeout and allowing one run on two hits.
