(MARQUETTE COMMUNICATIONS) PROVIDENCE, RI – The Marquette women’s basketball team closed out its regular season with a 69-65 win at Providence on Sunday afternoon at Alumni Hall.
The Golden Eagles got a game-high 24 points from Skylar Forbes and a 15-point, 12-rebound double-double from Lee Volker.
Leading for the for the first six minutes, Marquette saw Providence grab its first lead of the gme with under four minutes left in the opening period. The Friars rattled off a string of 10 consecutive made baskets but their lead stood at just one at 22-21 following a triple in transition from Jordan Meulemans. With a pair of Skylar Forbes free throws on both sides of the 3-pointer, the Golden Eagles regained their advantage and led 23-22 at after 10 minutes.
Providence grabbed the lead right back to start the second, holding it until a pair of 3-pointers midway through the period came from Forbes and Lee Volker. The 10-2 run helped MU take its largest lead of the half at five. It was trimmed to just one during the final 72 seconds of the half as the Golden Eagles took a 38-37 advantage in the locker room.
With the game remaining tight through the first five minutes of the third, Marquette began to create some breathing room. MU closed the period on a 15-2 run with Forbes getting inside for six while Meulemans went outside for a pair of triples.
Up 17 with eight minutes to play, turnovers began to plague the Golden Eagles. Eight MU miscues resulted in the Friars climbing back to within four at 65-61. Despite shooting just 1-of-6 and going 8-of-16 from the free throw-line in the quarter, MU came up with big stops down the stretch with Forbes and Halle Vice each blocking a 3-point attempt in the final minute.

Marquette’s first opponent at the 2026 Big East Tournament will be the No. 4 or No. 5 seed and face either St. John’s or Creighton on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. ET/1:30 p.m. CT at Mohegan Sun Arena in Ucasville, Conn. All games will feature on Peacock and NBCSN.
