William Nell (Outagamie County/Zoom)
APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – William Nell was sentenced Wednesday to 10 years in prison for supplying the fentanyl used in a fatal overdose.
Nell, 60, pleaded no contest Wednesday to one count of first-degree reckless homicide for the June 2023 death.
He also placed on extended supervision for 10 years by Judge Carrie Schneider.
Before the sentence was issued, Nell apologized for his actions, saying he wished they both made better choices and could be enjoying time with their families now.
According to the criminal complaint, police were called to a Neenah home for an overdose death.
Text messages on the victim’s phone had details of arranging a drug buy with Nell. They met at an Appleton convenience store on June 1 for the transaction, the complaint states.
The victim died of “acute fentanyl intoxication,” according to the autopsy report.
Nell is currently housed at the Oshkosh Correctional Institution for other convictions.
