APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — No injuries were reported in a fire that damaged an Appleton house.
Shortly after noon Thursday, the Appleton Fire Department was called to a single-family home in the 700 block of East Brewster Street. The initial 911 report said smoke and flames were visible and evacuation was underway.
When crews arrived, they found smoke coming from the roof. Firefighters entered the home to search the floors, at which point they found the fire and performed vertical ventilation. The fire was brought the fire under control within 15 minutes.
No one was hurt. An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing. Damage to the home and its contents is estimated to be $75,000.
Working smoke alarms were installed in the residence, AFD said. The department reminds everyone to know two ways out of every room in your home in case one route is blocked or dangerous.
