(WTAQ-WLUK) — In a post on Facebook on Wednesday, the Lakeshore Humane Society announced the shelter will be making a move to Two Rivers.
“The rumors are true… Lakeshore Humane Society is officially moving to Two Rivers! It’s been a long time coming, but as of last Wednesday, we are officially land owners!” the Facebook post reads, along with a photo on the newly-purchased piece of land.
The new location will be off the Lakeshore on Columbus Street, the post says.
“We’re excited for groundbreaking Spring 2026, more details to come!! Thank you for the warm welcome Two Rivers City Council and TRPD!” the post continues.
The Lakeshore Humane Society was established in Manitowoc in 1970 by a group of ‘compassionate animal lovers’ in an effort to ‘change the treatment of homeless and stray animals in the area,’ according to the shelter’s website. That same year, they secured their 501(c)(3) status.
The shelter’s first facility was constructed six years later, after raising funds and community donations. The shelter is operated out of the same facility today, after an expansion in 1996.
Lakeshore Humane Society officials say they serve over 1,500 pets each year.
