(MARQUETTE COMMUNICATIONS) – The Marquette University men’s basketball team (5-8, 0-2 BIG EAST) continued BIG EAST Conference play on Saturday night with a 84-63 loss against Creighton (7-5, 2-0 BIG EAST) at CHI Health Center Omaha.
Freshman guard Nigel James Jr. finished with a career-high 23 points and senior guard Chase Ross chipped in nine points.
Marquette concluded the night shooting just 34.4 percent from the floor and was never able to make an extended run into the double-digit halftime deficit. Creighton, however, knocked down 10 treys on the night and finished the evening shooting 46.8 percent from the floor.
The Golden Eagles opened the game scoring nine of the first 11 points on the night, but Creighton quickly found its rhythm offensively and turned the deficit into a 46-32 halftime advantage. MU finished the opening 20 minutes shooting 38.2 percent from the floor, while the Bluejays knocked down 50.0 percent of their opportunities, including six treys.
