APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – One of the teens charged in vandalism spree was sentenced to six years in prison.
Brandon Fossum, 18, was also placed on extended supervision for two years and probation for 15 years Thursday by Judge Gregory Gill. Fossum was convicted of multiple counts of arson, criminal damage to property, and other counts. Restitution has not been determined.
A second suspect, Kevin Peterson, 19, returns to court Feb. 18 for a plea hearing.
A third suspect, Zach Vandenhoven, 17, pleaded guilty to arson and burglary, but reached a deferred prosecution agreement. He is on county supervision for 4.5 years, court records show. Typically, if no future crimes are committed, such an agreement means the conviction could be expunged from his record.
The investigation started when vandalism was discovered at construction sites across the Fox Valley last January, and when fires damaged elevators in downtown Appleton’s Yellow and Green parking ramps.
Among the sites vandalized were the Fox Cities Champion Center site in Grand Chute, a home in Appleton, and an apartment complex in Little Chute. The destruction to the Champion Center site included extensive damage to at least five trailers valued at $30,000 apiece. One estimate put the total damage at $2 million.
Court documents also stated Peterson said this all started because the teens were bored one day.
