APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Casey Welk, a part-time Grand Chute police community service officer, was charged Wednesday with 10 counts of possession of child pornography.
According to the criminal complaint, an online tip claimed the child porn images were posted to Instagram. Outagamie County sheriff’s officials tracked the account to Welk’s address.
During an interview, Welk allegedly admitted sharing and requesting child porn over Instagram. According to the complaint, Welk told deputies “he had a ‘pleasing nature’ and wanted to ‘please and help others.’”
He also said he had trouble with pornography, which progressed from adult to child porn, which he called “pathetic.” He said it was a relief to be caught. A search turned up five images of child porn on his phone and five more on his laptop computer.
In court Wednesday, a court commissioner set a $10,000 bond for Welk. If he posts bond, he would not be allowed to use a computer, except for purposes of his studies at Fox Valley Technical College, and would not be allowed any unsupervised contact with minors.
