ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – All the news about the coronavirus has some people in Northeast Wisconsin thinking about whether it could happen here.
Thousands of visitors are expected to converge on The Resch Center March 12-14, for the State Girls Basketball Tournament.
WIAA officials tells FOX 11 after talking with the Centers for Disease Control, the State Depatment of Health, and the medical advisory committee, the games are scheduled to begin on time.
“A lot of discussions, as we continue to plan for the event, but there’s been no discussion at this time to cancel or postpone any of the tournament events,” said Todd Clark, WIAA Communications Director.
The Greater Green Bay Convention & Visitors Bureau coordinates hundreds of events each year.
Brad Toll, Greater Green Bay Convention & Visitors Bureau President and CEO, tells FOX 11 2020 looks good.
“We’ve seen some meetings, mostly corporate, that have pulled back a little bit, but smaller things. So far we’ve not lost any of our large conventions.”
Across town, the Cornerstone Community Center is getting ready to host one of those larger events. The rink is scheduled to welcome 170 competitors to the U.S. Speed Skating National Championships in just 10 days.
“We’re always concerned with any germs, in the building, with just the general practices that we have here,” said Don Chilson, Cornerstone Community Center Manager.
Chilson tells FOX 11 about a half a million visitors use the facility each year, and the building is cleaned all the time.
“It doesn’t hurt to being preventative however you can. So we’re going to do our part just to keep on top of things, and hopefully it doesn’t get to the point where we have to have problems, where we’re canceling events.”
Everyone is still keeping a watch on flu and coronavirus situation to see if policy changes might be needed.
