OUTAGAMIE COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – High levels continue to swell in waterways around Northeast Wisconsin.
That includes parts of the Wolf River in Outagamie County, where one homeowner is surrounded by water.
For those wanting to visit Ron Buss at his home on the Wolf River, a vehicle with four-wheel drive is recommended. In nearly 40 years of living with the wet spring time runoff, he tells FOX the 2020 season is in the top five.
“I kind of watch it every day when I wake up. I want to see where it goes up or down or not. It’s getting hard to tell anymore.”
Buss says the Wolf River started rising in the area a few days ago. He says the shoreline typically is 58 feet from his front door. But on Thursday morning, the cabin, the driveway, and much of the property were surrounded.
“I knew it was coming, but I didn’t think it was going to be this bad.”
Buss says so far, he’s kept the water out of his home, and there isn’t much damage.
“Not that I know of right now, I’ll see later. But we got it pretty well secure around here. It seems to be okay.”
Buss says if he wants to walk his dogs, he has to drive them to drier land. His golden retrievers Cooper and Jake returned from some exercise and made their way inside.
Buss says the routine will continue until the river level drops, and takes at least some of the water with it.
The National Weather Service expected the Wolf River in Outagamie County to crest Thursday afternoon, but Buss says it usually takes days before he notices any difference.
