NEW LONDON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A duplex in New London may be a total loss following a garage fire.
The fire broke out around 3:00 p.m. Monday in the 600 block of Pine Street.
Firefighters received a report of flames coming from a garage between the two units.
When they arrived, a garage roof was caving in on a vehicle which was on fire.
In a social media post, the New London Fire Department says crews stopped the fire from spreading to the units, however there is extensive smoke damage.
The owner of the vehicle that was on fire told firefighters her SUV had been damaged earlier in the day when she hit and killed a dog on the highway.
The woman believed that damage caused her vehicle to start on fire.
A person who lived in the other side of the duplex was able to escape thanks to a neighbor.
No one was hurt in the fire.
Three cats made it out of the duplex.
Firefighters were searching for a fourth cat.
The Red Cross is helping residents of both sides of the duplex.
