CAMPBELLSPORT, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A Fond du Lac County community is offering a $700 reward to anyone who can provide information leading to the arrest of those responsible for stealing American flags from yards and veterans’ grave sites.
The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Department says 15 flags that were placed on the graves of veterans in the Empire Cemetery, were taken over Memorial Day weekend.
In addition, Campbellsport Police say they received multiple reports of stolen flags in and around the village.
“It’ll be a misdemeanor crime of theft and they could face up to a $1,000 fine and 9 months in the county jail,” Campbellsport Police Chief Tom Dornbrook told FOX 11 about penalties if the flag thief is caught.
It is unknown if the thefts are related.
The reward was raised by Campbellsport community members and the Campbellsport Police Department.
