GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Amid the coronavirus pandemic, a Green Bay non-profit organization was inspired to get creative in their training process for new foster families.
Foundations Health and Wholeness is offering online training for families interested in becoming foster parents.
Almost all of the training can be completed virtually, making it more convenient for families to attend.
Recruiters say they are also aware of social distancing when visiting the homes of potential foster parents.
Foster care recruiting manager, Collin Drews, says that the organization has seen a significant decrease of foster homes since the start of the pandemic.
“Last year at this time we had 15 homes in the process out of our Green Bay office. We currently have two homes in the process out of our Green Bay office. Between March 17 and May 1, we received zero phone calls for our Green Bay office and we are usually receiving three or four calls a week,” Drews said.
Drews hopes that virtual training will continue in the future.
