GREENVILLE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The holiday travel season is kicking off early in Northeast Wisconsin.
From the ticket counter to TSA, lines of passengers could be seen Tuesday at Appleton International Airport.
According to ATW Airport Director Abe Weber, it’s not going to slow down.
“Now that we have much larger aircraft in and out of Appleton airport, we will see a crowd congregate around the ticket counter as they get checked in and head to the checkpoint,” he said. “But if you see the checkpoint, the line is still relatively short, maybe a minute or two and you’re right on through.”
Last year, ATW marked a milestone, reaching more than one million travelers. Now, it’s aiming even higher.
“We’re about 20% increased over where we were last year, so we’re going to break that one million mark in early November,” Weber said.
Head north, and Austin Straubel International Airport in Green Bay expects to see a busy travel season come Thanksgiving.
“So far, year to date, our passenger traffic is up almost 5%,” said GRB Director Marty Piette. “I think we’ll continue that trend for the second quarter — I should say the fourth quarter — through Thanksgiving and then Christmas travel, as well.”
Those looking to travel for the holidays are encouraged to book their flights now to ensure they make it to their final destination.
