Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley (Milwaukee County)
WISCONSIN (WTAQ) — The Associated Press has officially called democratic Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley as Wisconsin’s 47th governor on Tuesday night at 10:28 p.m.
Crowley received 53.6% of the vote compared to republican congressman Tom Tiffany’s 46.4%.
Although the Associated Press had not yet officially called the race, Tiffany conceded to Crowley in a speech at about 9:46 p.m.
Tiffany said in part, “I want to congratulate David Crowley on his victory. While we have our differences, we both love this great state and I wish him and his family the very best as he prepares to serve as Wisconsin’s next governor.”
David Crowley will make history as the first black governor of Wisconsin.
In his victory speech, Crowley said he’ll would be a governor for everyone, including those who didn’t vote for him.
“Wisconsin isn’t a red state or a blue state,” he said. “We never have been. In a state this close, nobody gets to govern alone.”
Crowley beat out democratic socialist Francesca Hong in the primary, after he re-entered the race in July, days after originally dropping out.
Through his campaign, Crowley received many high profile endorsements, including from former president Barack Obama.
Crowley also had the support of current Wisconsin governor Tony Evers. Evers offered his congratulations to Crowley on social media:
Crowley will officially become the next governor of Wisconsin on January 4, 2027.
This is a breaking story and will continue to be edited.
