(WTAQ-WLUK) — President Donald Trump says he is approving $17.9 million in federal relief for severe weather in Wisconsin, including the EF-3 tornado that devastated parts of the Fox Valley July 27.
Trump made the announcement on Truth Social Wednesday.
“The people are tough and smart, and will come back stronger than ever — 18 Million Dollars should help, A LOT. See you soon Wisconsin — I LOVE YOU ALL!” Trump wrote.
In August, Gov. Tony Evers requested a disaster declaration from the Trump administration for the Fox Valley damage, as well as damage from the same day in Forest and Vilas counties.
Preliminary damage assessments of more than 2,300 residential properties by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and Wisconsin Emergency Management estimated a total of more than $8.2 million in damage. Another $13.8 million in damage was estimated to have been caused to public sector infrastructure. Nearly $13.3 million of the total verified damage was in Winnebago County.
Governor Tony Evers posted on X with skepticism about the news.
Wisconsinites will believe it when we see it.
Clearly, President Trump and Congressman Tiffany are continuing to play politics with emergency aid that’s meant to help communities recover in the wake of disasters like tornadoes and floods. That’s Complete and Total Bullshit. https://t.co/CwlqlRvnx7
