(UW ATHLETICS) – Decelise Champion of the Wisconsin volleyball team has been named Big Ten Freshman of the Week following her performances against Oregon and Purdue, announced by the conference Monday afternoon.
Champion tallied back-to-back matches of double-figure kill totals in the Badgers’ opening weekend of conference play. The freshman notched a double-double figure against Oregon with a 16 kill, 10 dig performance, while also contributing four block assists. Her .429 hitting percentage (16 – 1 – 35) marked the team’s second-highest performance in the match. Against Purdue, Champion led the team with 11 kills, adding nine digs and five block assists in the process.
This marks Champion’s second consecutive Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor and second of her career.
Next up, the Badgers continue conference play, hosting No. 18 Indiana (9-2, 2-0) Thursday at 8 p.m. at the UW Field house. Wisconsin will then travel to Minneapolis for a Sunday evening match-up against No. 15 Minnesota (6-4, 0-2).
