CLINTONVILLE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Local police confirm that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents conducted a targeted enforcement operation in the city Wednesday morning.
Clintonville police say just before 8:40 a.m., a resident of Brix Street called to say five or six people were in her yard with guns drawn, claiming to be ICE agents.
Police responded to the scene and confirmed the agents were from ICE. They were looking for a person who had a final order of deportation. There was also a Shawano County warrant for the person’s arrest.
The ICE agents left the scene and Clintonville police arrested the person on the Shawano County warrant. The person was turned over to Shawano County authorities and taken to jail.
The arrest was not made in connection with any immigration issue.
“The Clintonville Police Department has traditionally worked well with federal, state, and local law enforcement on investigations in our city and will continue to do so,” Police Chief Craig Freitag said in a social media post. “The Clintonville Police Department has no authority to enforce immigration laws.”
Police also said the Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office was not involved or on scene, contrary to rumors.
