APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Packers quarterback Jordan Love kicked off the third year of his “10ve for Cleats” campaign, donating cleats to youth sports teams in Wisconsin and Bakersfield, Calif.
Through the program, he donated 2,000 cleats to 46 teams last year, in honor of his 23 touchdowns. He donates to one youth (K-12) team in Wisconsin and one in Bakersfield for each touchdown.
“I wanted reasons where kids can continue to stay involved in sports, and there was no reason where kids wouldn’t have the gear, the equipment to stay in sports each year,” said Love. “So I wanted to find a way to keep kids involved. And I thought giving out a new pair of cleats every year is an easy way.”
By the end of this year, Love hopes to reach 5,000 pairs donated in total. This is the third year of the program.
He also chose a winner for his “My Cause My Cleats” contest, choosing a design from an Appleton kid for cleats he’ll wear on field for a game this upcoming season.
During his visit to the Boys & Girls Club in Appleton, he also took time to answer kids’ questions on anything ranging from how old is mom is to how many footballs he’s thrown over the course of his life.
