GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – May the “Force” be with the Green Bay Packers as the NFL teams up with Disney, Champion and Fanatics for a first-of-its-kind collaboration.
It’s all part of Disney and ESPN’s “Year of the Super Bowl.”
Disney Consumer Products, the NFL, Champion and Fanatics collaboration pairs all 32 NFL teams with iconic Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars™ characters through storytelling-led design rooted in team identity, fandom and culture.
“Every pairing was inspired by the qualities, traditions and fan culture that define each NFL team, as well as the shared personalities, traits and stories that connect these teams with beloved Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars characters,” said Bret Healey, Director of Graphic Design, Disney Consumer Products. “The result is a collection that feels authentic to fans while celebrating the passion behind both fandoms.”
The Packers have been paired with Star Wars’ Chewbacca. A news release saying, “Loyal to the cause in the cold, snow, sleet and rain. Whether it’s Hoth or Lambeau, Chewbacca stays until the job is done.”
“I think it’s a good pickup for the Packers, good for team morale, and fun for the kids,” said Zach Ledwith.
Anne Wanty added, “I think that’s perfect for the Packers because they’re going to big and burly and they’re going to get the job done.”
While Packers fans say they understand the connection between Chewbacca and the Frozen Tundra some believe there’s another Disney character that would have really taken the cheese.
According to Angela Blaser, “I think Gus Gus would have been a great hit. Because little cheese mouse. They’re cute. And we’re a cute little town. So, good fit.”
Chewy may not be everyone’s fit, but one thing is true – the Packers remain King. And no one is complaining about some new troopers who could be joining this empire.
“It kind of expands the fan base and gets exposure to crowds that might not be interested in the NFL. So I totally aligned with it,” added Ledwith.
First introduced through the Disney Fan Draft at Fanatics Fest NYC, where NFL legends and sports personalities helped unveil the first wave of matchups live on stage, the collection now expands league-wide with tees, crewnecks and fleece silhouettes for all 32 teams.
The items are available on NFLShop.com, Fanatics.com, DisneyStore.com, and select retailers nationwide.
