(WNFL) – Two of the biggest performances from Week 1 of high school football came in the wild overtime 56-53 win by Notre Dame over Neenah.
The Tritons’ Kingston Allen was unstoppable. Allen rushed for 7 touchdowns and 458 yards in the win by Notre Dame.
For Neenah, Ashton Van Beek had a phenomenal game as well. The senior quarterback accounted for 7 touchdowns. He rushed for 5 and threw for 2. He ran for 297 yards in the loss.
Red Raiders romp: Heading over to Pulaski where the Red Raiders rolled over Appleton East 47-7, Anthony Ficarri rushed for 5 touchdowns and 180 yards on 30 carries for the Pulaski.
Road tripping: Starting his first game at quarterback, West De Pere’s Andrew Greisen did well, throwing 385 yards for 5 touchdowns in the Phantoms’ 42-20 win over Sun Prairie East. He completed 26-of-38 passes. Nine of those passes went to Parker Diedrich who finished with 109 yards receiving.
Freedom reigns (and runs): Junior running back Axzil Eggert proved to be as tough to tackle as a junior as he was as a sophomore rushing for 163 yards on 20 carries. Oh, Eggert scored 3 touchdowns as well in Freedom’s 40-0 win over Lake Mills.
A strong start: De Pere’s Max Goebel caught 9 passes for 102 yards in their season-opening 47-0 win over Manitowoc.
Blazing to a start: The NEW Lutheran/Providence Academy Blazers beat Gibraltar 30-16 due in part to Cashe Martin. The junior wide receiver caught 4 passes but they totaled 166 yards.
Doing it on defense: West De Pere’s Bralon Stegall notched 14 tackles in the Phantoms’ win over West De Pere while Peshtigo’s Zac Schonfeld had 13 tackles for the Bulldogs in their loss to Coleman.
Picked off: Green Bay East’s Rowan Allen, Pulaski’s Braun Wotruba and Green Bay West’s Liam Letizia all had 2 interceptions.
