OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A fox overlooking the Fox River.
Students at the Fox Valley Technical College Oshkosh campus are helping paint the newest mural along the city’s 11-mile riverwalk.
“So we’ve got a big old mural, and I’ve been fortunate to work with some folks who were able to put on a whole event here,” said mural artist Nick Goettling. “You can see we’ve got a whole lot of the nursing and medical staff.”
Students from surgical technology dressed the part, filling in a map of the Fox River as part of the art piece.
The piece is a collaboration between the technical college, Discover Oshkosh, and Goettling. He said it’s going to be a show of what Fox Valley Technical College offers to the community.
“We used the fox and the river as kind of some natural imagery,” Goettling explained. “Something people just walking past can enjoy. And then there will be these little vignettes if you will of kind of learning and education and skill building that everyone can get at the college.”
Those vignettes telling a deeper story of the impact the technical college has on the city.
“I think it represents how important education is in our community, having locations in our community,” said Ann Wilkes with FVTC. “Just tying it in with the Fox River, Fox Valley Technical College, all the wonderful programs we have for our students.”
Goettling has made murals all across the country. He said Oshkosh, and Wisconsin as a whole, is a special place.
It’s a message he wants reflected in his work on the mural.
“It’s so beautiful, everyone is so kind. So I’m hoping that we’re celebrating that,” he said.
Goettling expects the project to be done in about two weeks, as long as Mother Nature cooperates.
