OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — An Oshkosh mom has started a petition after one of her daughters was run over by a child on an electric bike.
Miranda Kluever says her child was left with bruises, scratches and a wound on her forehead.
Neenah, Menasha, and Fox Crossing enacted ordinances to issue fines for violations like doing stunts or racing.
Kluever started the petition to influence state lawmakers to create e-bike laws.
She says it’s necessary for everyone’s safety.
“I’ve come close to hitting a couple kids not too long ago, it was about two weeks ago, because I was driving down one road and I was only doing 25 miles an hour and they whipped out from another road,” Kluever said. “They didn’t stop, they didn’t slow down, they didn’t look both ways. It was scary.”
Thankfully, I slammed on my brakes and everybody was okay. They saw me coming finally, but it was close. And it’s happening more and more, it’s not just happening to me, it’s happening to people all over Wisconsin, well, all over the world, I guess, but I’ve had a lot of people reach out to me of their experiences that have happened recently, too.
Kluever says she hopes stronger penalties go into place to hold people responsible for injuries and property damage.
