GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The Green Bay Area Public School District school board has unanimously approved its request to hold a referendum vote this November.
The district plans to ask voters to approve 158 million dollars over four years.
The money would be for day to day operating costs and salaries.
Board members say the referendum is absolutely needed, as it would prevent cuts to staff and programs.
“After weeks and weeks and months really of discussion, this is what we’ve come to. I trust our financial people and their advice,” Green Bay School Board Member Laura McCoy said.
Board members emphasized, this proposal would not increase the district’s current tax rate.
The current $16.5 million operation referendum, which was approved in November 2022, expires at the end of the current academic year.
Back in 2024, Green Bay voters approved a $183 million capital referendum.
