SHAWANO, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The Shawano County Sheriff’s Office is looking for information after a dog was found with eight gunshot wounds and other injuries.
The dog, which has been nicknamed “Sunny,” was taken to the humane society after being found on Wednesday near the area of Cedar Drive and Maple Road in the town of Maple Grove, a news release states.
Sunny is brown, mixed-breed dog, weighing about 35 pounds, and is believed to be about 8 years old.
“Veterinary staff confirmed that Sunny suffered eight gunshot wounds, a broken leg, and numerous other traumatic injuries. Based on the condition of the wounds, the injuries are believed to have occurred approximately two to four days before Sunny was found. Sunny remains under veterinary supervision and is awaiting medical clearance before undergoing additional procedures,” the release states.
There are no suspects or known witnesses. The sheriff’s office asks anyone with information to call 715-526-3111 or email Deputy Josh Heider at josh.heider@shawanocountywi.gov.
“We ask for the public’s patience as this investigation continues. Cases such as this are especially challenging when there are no witnesses and limited investigative leads. Every piece of information, no matter how small it may seem, could prove valuable,” the release states.
The Shawano County Humane Society is accepting donations for the cost of his ongoing treatment.
