PDP Workshops Combine Expert Insights with Farm and Field Tours, July 28 and 30
DAIRY NEWS – Seeing management practices firsthand can bring new ideas back to the farm. That’s the goal of the 2026 Carbon, Crops + Cows program presented by Professional Dairy Producers® (PDP), which will combine classroom learning about carbon intensity scores and sustainability metrics with farm and field tours on host dairy farms.
Each workshop begins at 10:30 a.m. following 10 a.m. registration. The July 28 program will be hosted by Mystic Valley Dairy LLC in Sauk City; the July 30 event will take place at Grass Ridge LLC in Pittsville. Dairy producers are encouraged to bring their management and advisory teams so dairy owners, managers, nutritionists, crop consultants and agronomists can work together to develop a sustainability strategy for the operation.
“Attending a Carbon, Crops + Cows program is the perfect way for producers to learn more about how to make the right decisions for their farm’s path toward sustainability,” said Mitch Breunig, Sauk City, Wis., dairy producer. “They’ll also have the chance to tour the host farm and network with peers who have already taken steps to track improvements based on their own sustainability scores.”
Interactive sessions led by Kelsey Lichtenwalner, lead animal scientist at Eocene Environmental Group, and Grace Moeller, manager of sustainability initiatives at National Milk Producers Federation, will review FARM-ES and other sustainability metrics and demonstrate how management decisions and farm practices can influence scores.
Each program also features conversations with dairy producers who have participated in PDP’s Your Farm – Your Footprint® initiative, offering real-world examples of how sustainability data can support management decisions and long-term planning. Mitch Breunig will host the tour at Mystic Valley Dairy and Paul Lippert will host the tour at Grass Ridge Farm, LLC.
