RIPON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A Ripon man is facing multiple charges after allegedly assaulting a person and then holding them against their will overnight with knife.
On June 19, around 10:35 a.m., officers responded to a 911 call from an individual stating that they were the victim of a violent physical assault.
Upon arrival, officers observed the victim with several serious substantial injuries.
The victim reported to officers that the suspect in this case was armed with a knife and that the victim was held against their will since the previous night. The victim reported they were able to escape, only by crawling out of the residence due to their injuries, and flag down a passerby to seek medical attention and contact law enforcement.
As officers Investigated the incident, they learned that the suspect, who was identified as, 38-year-old Jared Thurber, had an active felony warrant through probation and parole. It was also learned that Thurber had previous charges and convictions of substantial battery-intended bodily harm, resisting or obstructing, and disorderly conduct. The victim also reported that Thurber may be impaired by drugs and/or alcohol.
Based on that information, officers set up a perimeter around the S. Douglas Street residence and requested the assistance of the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Department. The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Department responded with their tactical equipment. After several hours of requesting a peaceful surrender through voice and phone attempts, Thurber remained barricaded inside.
The sheriff’s office SWAT team was deployed. After several more hours of attempted negotiations, SWAT operators utilized specialized technology and less-lethal tools to safely take the suspect into custody. A short time later, Thurber exited the home and was taken into custody.
Thurber faces multiple charges including strangulation and suffocation, domestic abuse repeater, aggravated batter – intend great bodily harm, false imprisonment and mistreating animals.
The investigation remains ongoing.
