OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A planned pedestrian bridge over I-41 in Oshkosh is moving forward once again.
The Common Council voted 6 to 1 in favor of the project at Tuesday’s meeting.
It calls for the construction of a bicycle and pedestrian bridge across I-41, just south of Highway 21.
The project is being primarily funded by a federal grant.
A handful of residents and small business owners spoke in favor of the project.
Many cited walkability and bike-ability as major factors for people choosing where they want to live.
The Common Council also discussed and took public comment about redeveloping City Center.
The redevelopment would include new housing, commercial spaces, and public spaces.
Two City Center tenants spoke against the plan.
Common Council returned from closed session shortly before 10 p.m.
It voted to move the plan forward to acquire City Center.
The Plan Commission will discuss the plan this next Tuesday.
