OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Next week, the Oshkosh Public Library will begin a roof repair project designed to preserve one of the community’s most recognizable landmarks.
On Monday, crews will start replacing aging materials beneath the library’s iconic clay tile dome. The clay tiles will be carefully removed and salvaged, allowing crews to address the underlying layers that serve as a critical water barrier for the building.
These materials have been in place since the mid-1950s and are being updated to help prevent future water damage. Once repairs are complete, the existing clay tiles will be reinstalled, maintaining the building’s historic character.
During construction, a large boom lift will be operating near the library. The building will remain open while the work is being completed. Services and programs will continue as usual.
Funding for the project comes from the City of Oshkosh Capital Improvement Program (CIP).
