APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — James Barton was sentenced Wednesday to four years in prison for supplying the drugs in his wife’s 2022 fatal overdose.
Barton, 49, was previously convicted of first-degree reckless homicide for the death of Connie Barton in Kimberly.
He was also placed on extended supervision for 11 years by Judge Mark Schroeder, following a joint recommendation from prosecutors and the defense.
Before the sentence was issued, Barton’s attorney read a statement from him. In it, he apologized for actions and said he should have been stronger in trying to keep them both off drugs.
The victim died of acute drug intoxication involving fentanyl and cocaine. Barton told police he used heroin and cocaine with her but denied supplying them to her, the complaint states.
Barton is currently housed at the Stanley Correctional Institution on other convictions.
