(GREEN BAY ATHLETICS) – The Green Bay softball team secured the series win against the Northern Kentucky Norse Saturday afternoon with a 17-7, run-rule win over the Norse. Jenna Redders ended the game in the bottom of the fifth inning with a three-run homer to force the run rule. The Phoenix is now 4-5 in Horizon League play.
Jasmyn Trigueros (4-8) started in the circle and picked up the win for Green Bay (10-22, 4-5). The right-hander went two innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on four hits, allowing no walks and striking out one. Paeton Kringel was key for the Phoenix out of the bullpen, throwing 1.1 shutout innings while allowing no hits, with no walks and two strikeouts.
Redders finished the day 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs. Brooke Schwall went 1-for-4 with a home run in addition to her four RBIs. Gracie Anderson also contributed at the plate for Green Bay, putting together two hits in two trips to the plate while adding a home run, two walks, and three RBIs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Phoenix was trailing 2-0 in the first inning when they first put runs on the board. The Phoenix plated two runs when Anderson left the yard with Sara Ebner aboard.
The game remained tied until the next inning, when the Phoenix got the bats going again. Redders’ run-scoring single highlighted an inning where Green Bay scored twice, which brought the score to 4-2 in favor of the Phoenix.
Northern Kentucky narrowed Green Bay’s lead to 4-3 before the Phoenix stretched the advantage to 12-3 in the third inning. The Phoenix batted around and scored eight in the frame, kicked off by Schwall’s three-run homer.
The Norse fought back, closing the gap to 12-7 before Green Bay added some insurance in the fourth. The Phoenix scored on an RBI single off the bat of Anderson, bringing the Green Bay advantage to 13-7.
The Phoenix held Northern Kentucky scoreless before ending the game in the fifth. With two runners on, and the score sitting at 14-7, Redders left the yard for the first time this season to end the game at 17-7.

Green Bay will turn its attention back to nonconference play when they host UW-Oshkosh in a doubleheader on Tuesday. Following, the Phoenix will travel to Detroit Mercy for a three-game series starting on Friday.
