(LEARFIELD) – Christian Yelich’s first career pinch-hit homer gave the Brewers a 9-7 victory Sunday afternoon at American Family Field in Milwaukee.
That completed a three-game sweep of the Chicago White Sox in the first series of the 2026 season.
Milwaukee had trailed 7-3 before putting a six-spot on the board in the bottom of the eighth.
Brewers manager Pat Murphy said that Yelich is now swinging great but this makes you happy for him.
Murphy said that this is attitude the team wants, that they are never out of it.
Murphy talked about Yelich going up and pinch hitting.
Yelich said that he knew pinch hitting was a possibility all day.
He talked about going up in that moment.
Gary Sanchez also had a homer for the winners.
Jake Woodford got the win in relief, and Trevor Megill nailed down his first save.
Brandon Sproat started for the Brewers and allowed 7 runs on 6 hits and 4 walks while striking out 3 over 3 innings. He allowed 3 home runs.
Sproat talked about the message Murphy gave him after giving up 4 runs in the first inning.
Sproat said that he didn’t fare well but the bullpen picked him up.
The Brewers open a home series against the Tampa Bay Rays tonight with the game being aired starting at 6:05 on 1360 and 97.5 WTAQ.
