(WIAC) – The WIAC has announced its athletes of the week for the week ending March 22.
Nominated student athletes include former Kimberly, Peshtigo and Green Bay Southwest students.
BASEBALL
Position
Brayden Knoll, Freshman (Byron, Ill./Byron), Outfield of UW-Platteville
Knoll had a strong week, batting .667 (12-for-18) with a 1.222 slugging percentage across four games as the Pioneers went 3-1. After going 1-for-4 with a stolen base to open the week in a loss to No. 12-ranked Washington-St. Louis (Mo.), Knoll went 4-for-5 with two home runs, six RBI, three runs scored, and a stolen base as the Pioneers beat Milwaukee School of Engineering 19-2 in seven innings. His first home run in that game was first inning grand slam. Knoll homered again and doubled in the first game against Illinois College on March 20, finishing 5-for-6 with three more RBI and three runs scored while swiping another bag. Knoll then came up big in the final game of the week, going 2-for-4 with a two-run single in the ninth to help spark the Pioneers’ six-run comeback win over Illinois College. In total, Knoll concluded the week with 11 RBI, seven runs scored, three home runs, and three stolen bases.

Schneider went 2-0 in a pair of relief appearances at the RussMatt Invitational during the week. He struck out nine over 6.1 innings and held opposing hitters to a .095 average.

Kiani helped UW-Eau Claire to a 2-0 record during the week. In a 22-12 victory over Augustana College (Ill.) on March 20, she set the program record for single game goals with 10 and added a pair of assists to tie the single game points mark of 12. Against Aurora University (Ill.) on March 21, Kiani added four goals on six shots.

Rommeck anchored the Falcons defensively in games against Oglethorpe University (Ga.) and Berry College (Ga.), playing all 120 minutes in net and earning two wins. She finished the week with 20 saves and a .513 save percentage, holding opponents to just 9.5 goals per game. In addition to her work in goal, Rommeck had 12 ground balls.

Peters had a strong week at the plate for the Pioneers, batting .630 with 10 RBI. She recorded at least one hit in all eight games played, with seven multi-hit performances. Peters homered against Rowan University (N.J.) on March 17, and had four doubles on the week, including three in the last four games to help UW-Platteville close the week with four straight wins.

Kreuser went 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA and tossed two combined no-hitters for the Pointers at The Spring Games during the week. Her first outing of the week on March 17, she struck out seven and pitched 4.1 innings in a combined no-hitter against Plattsburgh State (N.Y.). On March 19, she went 5.0 innings with five strikeouts and did not allow an earned run. Kreuser combined on another no-hitter on March 20, with three strikeouts in a shutout win over Fredonia State (N.Y.). She struck out 15 batters over 13.1 innings on the week.

Schneider went 3-1 at No. 1 singles on UW-La Crosse’s spring break trip. He earned a three-set (4-6, 6-4, 10-1) win over Davi Savi of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (Texas) on March 16. Schneider earned a two-set (6-2, 6-3) victory over Alex Draeger of Saint John’s University (Minn.) on March 17, and a two-set (6-1, 6-3) win over Tanay Sharma of Illinois Tech on March 19.

Hehli and Meixl went 3-1 on UW-La Crosse’s spring break trip, including 1-0 at No. 1 and 2-1 at No. 2. The duo earned a 6-4 victory at No. 2 doubles over Kell Castleberry/Vince Rivas of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (Texas) on March 16. Hehli/Meixl won 6-2 over Alex Draeger/Cole Haabala of Saint John’s University (Minn.) at No. 1 doubles on March 19. The duo defeated Pedro Roca/Hozumi Tada of Illinois Tech at No. 2 doubles on March 19.
