(ST NORBERT COMMUNICATIONS) MELBOURNE, Fla. – St. Norbert College continued competition at the Space Coast Games going 1-1 on the third day of action, defeating Grinnell College 5-2 before being held by Central College 12-3 in two non-conference games.
The Green Knights (5-5) never trailed against Grinnell, jumping out to an early 3-0 lead before the Pioneers cut the lead to one run.
Karleigh Linssen’s (pictured) single in the first inning scored Grendel Sprong while Allison Ardito scored on a wild pitch to take a 2-0 lead. Magdeline Hanmann scored on a second wild pitch from the Pioneers in the second, but a two-run double from Grinnell cut the lead to 3-2. Two singles from Elly Kirst and Sprong in the fourth gave the Green Knights a three-run advantage as St. Norbert won its fourth straight.
Ardito, Sprong and Linssen accounted for six of St. Norbert’s eight hits in the win, all of whom had two hits each. Addison Luebke earned her second win of the year behind 3.1 innings with three strikeouts while allowing three hits and no runs.
In the nightcap against Central, St. Norbert took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first from a two-run single by Morgan Jarvi to bring home Sprong and Ardito. The Dutch scored three runs in the bottom of the first to take the lead before adding nine more runs before a Green Knights response. Alexandria McKinney hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth to score Zoe Zasada, the only other run for the Green Knights in the loss.
Addison Maurer took the loss for St. Norbert.
The Green Knights will be back in action on Wednesday against UMass Boston and Western Connecticut State.
