(ST NORBERT COMMUNICATIONS) – DAVENPORT, Fla. – St. Norbert College improved to 4-1 on its Florida spring-break trip with an 8-5 win over Principia College at Northeast Park.
The Green Knights (8-3) and Panthers battled without a run for the first three innings before Principia broke through with two runs in the top of the fourth. St. Norbert responded with two runs in its half of the inning when Will DeBruin (pictured) scored on Carson Krumrei’s grounder and Zach Bostrand came home on a wild pitch.
St. Norbert broke things open in the bottom of the fifth, scoring three times. DeBruin’s single brought around Ethan Volz to score, Tyler Dean scored on a wild pitch and Bostrand’s single plated DeBruin to make it 5-2.
Principia got a run back in the top of the sixth but the Green Knights again posted a crooked number with three runs in their half of the frame. Volz’s single brought home Matt Schuch, who led off the inning with a triple. DeBruin followed with a double to set up Bostrand’s two-run single for an 8-3 lead.
The five-run lead held up until Principia scored twice in the top of the ninth inning, with Noah Chmielewski got the last two outs for his first save of the season.
DeBruin finished 5-for-5 with three runs scored to pace the Green Knights’ offense, which totaled 13 hits. Bostrand was 3-for-5 with three runs batted in, while Schuch was 2-for-5.
Cooper Dykes earned the win with three innings of long relief, allowing one run. Declan Kane started and worked four innings, allowing two runs on six hits.
