(MARQUETTE COMMUNICATIONS) MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men’s basketball team (10-19, 5-13 BIG EAST) continued conference play with a 62-51 loss against DePaul (16-13, 8-10 BIG EAST) on Sunday afternoon at Fiserv Forum.
Freshman guard Nigel James Jr. finished with 14 points and seven rebounds and senior Chase Ross added 12 points.
Marquette coach Shaka Smart said the team didn’t play well down the stretch.
He also said the team suffered from poor free throw shooting.
Smart said that there just wasn’t enough
The Golden Eagles trimmed an 18-point halftime deficit to single digits on a pair of occasions through the midway point of the second half, but each time the Blue Demons were able to respond. A 16-2 MU run however, closed the gap to 50-47 at the final media timeout. Unfortunately for MU, three points was as close as the team would get down the stretch.
Marquette trailed 32-14 at the intermission after shooting just 22.7 percent from the floor and 0-for-10 from behind the 3-point line.
